Why do so many people quit writing online after a month or so?

All my fellow creators that I had started writing with are gone. They’re not writing online ANYMORE. If I check their profile I see the last post “Year ago.”

And I wonder, sorry, not only I but also you might be wondering “What’s the reason for quitting?” Good question.

I got to know that, most writers quit too quickly because they make these 5 mistakes somewhere along the way.

What are those mistakes? Let’s find out:

Mistake #1: Chasing Money

Money should be the by-product of your work.

If you prioritize chasing money over mastering the craft, you’re almost guaranteed to fail. This is a mistake made by nearly every beginner writer.

They write for a month and then shift their focus to making money without truly learning the craft. If writing were that easy, everyone would be a great writer and make a hell lot of money. Are they?

First, learn the game!

Mistake #2: Consistency

Consistency is the key to success, as it outweighs talent in the long run.

Even if you have limited knowledge about writing today, staying consistent over the years can help you surpass 98% of writers. Unfortunately, many novice writers fail to maintain consistency.

Build systems for writing. Like, build a Notion file for headline creation, topic generation, writing hook, etc.

Take advantage of online tools.

Mistake #3: Impatience

Achieving significant results takes time.

You can’t expect rapid progress right from the start or within a short timeframe. This principle applies not only to writing but also to various aspects of life. However, if you remain consistent, you’ll naturally develop patience.

There are no shortcuts to success.

Mistake #4: Short-Term Thinking

Beginner writers often focus on the short term and seek quick monetary gains.

I was in the same boat when I began my writing journey years ago. However, I soon realized that there are no shortcuts, only long-term commitments. Over time, my mindset underwent a complete transformation.

It’s advisable for you to change yours as well.

Mistake #5: Selfishness

Writing is not a game for selfish individuals.

Many beginners become overly protective of their knowledge and resources, rarely sharing what they know with others. They keep their skills, money-making strategies, and tips to themselves.

However, the question is, why should others share with them in return? Success in writing is about creating value. If you give value, you’ll receive it in return.

In conclusion, avoid these common mistakes if you aspire to succeed as a writer.

Period.
