Read to collect the dots, write to connect them — David Perell.

If you notice carefully, all the great writers — are great readers.

Neil Gaiman. Stephen King. J.K. Rowling. Malcolm Gladwell. Paul Graham. Mark Manson. James Clear. Morgan Housel. Tim Ferriss. Tim Urban. David Perell. The Cultural Tutor. Shaan Puri. You name it…

Great writers understand that the key to great writing is great reading. The more you read, the more ideas you can have around the stuff you read. But it doesn’t mean that more reading leads to quality ideas. The quality of your reading decides the quality of your ideas.

The better the reading, the top-notch the writing.

In a world with information abundance, you have to be selective about what you’re reading. Most of the books, or let’s say 99% of the books are what we call the “Mediocre books.” They are poorly written and don’t shape the world in any meaningful way. You have to avoid reading those books.

If you read mediocre books, you’ll have mediocre ideas.
