Medium is a completely different writing platform.
Never dare to think that you wasted your time writing the story — especially if you believe the story you’ve written is good. Don’t get upset or demotivated if it doesn’t perform well in the first few days of publishing.
Your effort is never wasted on Medium.
Medium doesn’t work like Twitter or LinkedIn where you only have 24 hours to go viral or flopped. Meaning, when you publish your content on Twitter or LinkedIn, you’ll get to know whether the post is going viral or not within the first 2–6 hours.
Twitter and LinkedIn content has a short lifespan.
Medium stories, on the other hand, have a longer lifespan. It might not go viral in the first few hours or weeks, but if you’ve done a good job writing the story, it can perform well after a few weeks or months.
This has happened to me so many times. For example, look at this story:
I published this story in November 2022, it didn’t get enough views at the beginning, but after 5 months, around April 2023 it got so much traction and now it’s one of my most viewed stories on Medium.
So what do I recommend to you?
Put all your effort into writing the story. Write the best possible story. But don’t get upset when the story doesn’t perform well at the beginning, because it might perform well after a month.
