This Is Why I No Longer Offer 1:1 Coaching And Community Support
this has had to happen
Six months ago, I decided I’d never run a service business.
It was one of the best decisions of my life. Don’t get me wrong. I’m not against the business model, but the truth is it’s the way to make money, which I didn’t like.
It wasn’t for me, so I stopped. But it doesn’t have to be the same for you. I know countless people who make a fortune running a service business.
Here’s how it works, you get a client, you take the payment, you fulfill the service. Pretty easy, right? No, my friend, it’s not as easy as you think it is.
Consistent prospect reach out. Long calls. Boring clients. Ghosting. There are so many things that happen — one of the reasons I stopped doing it.
I try not to chase money, which helps me do whatever the heck I want to do. And this is what just happened. There are two things I was offering:
- 1:1 Coaching
- Community
1:1 Coaching
I’ve done it so many times and now I find it boring. The problem is that you’ve to present the same thing to different people over and over again.
I know, the money is there. But I don’t care.
The writing journey should be fun, something like writing this story or creating and building new things — not teaching the same stuff over and over again.
But you may say: You can start a group coaching. No, thank you!
The another problem is though, the moment someone books the coaching call, you need to inform them that they’ll have to do X thing in the Y days. Of course, you don’t need to, but since you’re offering it and because they’ve paid you money for it, so it does make sense to give a better experience to your prospect — that’s what I was doing.
If they late join the meeting — that’s another cherry on top.
It wasn’t just costing me so much mental pressure, but also I’d waste so much time replying, managing, and doing the things I don’t want to do.
Needed to stop it.
Community
I took a whole month to recreate the Medium Masterclass just to realize that I’m not going to continue doing it. Duh!
In December 2023, I recreated the Medium Masterclass and offered community support. Before launching it, I thought it would be a great way to help beginner writers grow on Medium.
I was wrong.
Within a month, I realized that it was doing nothing like that, plus just because I’ve promised new members to join the Community, I needed to stay online in the community as much as I could, which again was a huge deal for me.
It was too exhausting.
So I said, let’s screw this, and don’t wanna do any of them. I deleted the community and removed the option for 1:1 and video courses (because there were some strategy calls too)
So right now there is no such thing as strategy calls, 1:1 coaching, or the video course. The only thing now I sell is the Medium Masterclass ebook
I’m happy with what I’m doing with this ebook. And that’s enough for me. I don’t want extra stress and doing the things I don’t wanna do.
Design your life in way you want to design.
