The creator economy is booming.

The best time was to become a digital writer in 2010, the second best time is right now. Because the best part about digital writing is you don’t need a degree or a certificate. You don’t even need past experiences in order to become the citizen of the internet.

Writing online not only makes you money but also evolves you in different areas in your life such as clear thinking, effectively communicating, hardcore decision making, and more.

So, here are the steps you need to follow in order to become a digital writer:

Step #1: Ask Why?

This should be done.

Before writing anything on the internet you should ask yourself: Why do you want to write? What’s your purpose of writing online? And so many questions which start from the “wh” words, asked them.

Because it helps you to understand whether you should be a writer or not.

Here is the thing: 99% of people who start their online writing journey quit after one month of writing. Why? Because they don’t know the answers to these “wh” words.

Make sure you’re not one of them.

Step #2: No Domain And Hosting

Don’t start a personal blog.

Once you complete your first step, the second step is to choose your writing platform. Again, do not try writing on a personal blog, since it does not have the instant feedback loop you won’t get the data faster.

So, where should you start writing online?

Well, there are so many out there.

Let me write down some of them:

  • Medium
  • Twitter
  • LinkedIn
  • Quora
  • Substack
  • Vocal Media
  • Newsbreak

So on…

Confused?

Let me clear this up. Start writing on Medium. Medium is the #1 social blogging platform. (I said #1) There are no websites out there like Medium.

I do believe there are also some drawbacks of Medium, but those are meaningless or pointless. Trust me.

Start from Medium.

Step #3: Define Your Niche

That’s where most people stuck.

Let me say this: your niche determines your growth. After selecting the platform it’s time to define your niche. Hey! hello. Yes, you! you can’t write about 10 different topics. But if you do write about 10 different topics you’ll never grow.

So the very important thing is: please, please select your core niche, and don’t write beyond your niche.

Riches are in the niches.

Step #4: Find Like-Minded People

You do not need to use follow for follow method.

Most Medium writers use “follow for follow” method to increase their followers. But in the reality that is absurd. It doesn't make any sense.

Instead, what you have to do is: surround yourself with like-minded people who are in your niche. Find them and engage with their content on a daily basis.

That’s how you make the progress.

Step #5: The Long-Term Game

That’s where mindset comes.

Most digital writers who start their writing journey quit after a few months because they think about short-term, quick money, tricks, and hacks. But they don’t know that there are no such things.

A writer who plays the long-term game always wins. It’s hard to lose if you play the game in long run.

So change your mindset and play the long game.

Step #6: Congratulations!

You’re done.
