The Common Writing Myth: How long Should Your Medium Posts Be?
The most common myth about post-length
What should the optimal length of your blog posts be?
When it comes to writing, we often measure or piece by word counts. Don’t you? And this is the reason I often get this question from Medium writers. But, to be honest, this is completely a nonsense question. Some people even claim that your article should be xxx words in length, which is entirely wrong.
Despite that, every beginner/intermediate writer (not expert) be like:
Should I write 300 words article? Or
Should I write 800 words article? Or
Should I write 3,000 words article?
If this sounds familiar to you, here we go:
Let's face it:
Truth be told, the word count doesn’t matter.
Let me repeat this: The word count doesn’t matter.
So, what does matter?
The value. Once you deliver the promise, stop typing.
It doesn't matter whether your piece is in 300 or 3,000 words, if you’ve delivered the promise/value, then you’re good to go. After that, there is no need to add extra words. Don't waste the reader's time saying the same thing again, and again.
That’s it.
This post is the perfect example of what I’m saying.
