Stripe Express: The MPP Solution
Stripe Express in the solution
Okay, so there is a lot of confusion in the comment section of this article. The most obvious one is: “Medium has listed my country to its Partner Program but Stripe doesn’t work in my country, so how is Medium going to send the money to my account????”
Let’s face it...first thing first, you don’t need to create a working Stripe account to get paid writing on Medium through its Partner Program. A Stripe account is for your personal transactions (it has nothing to do with Medium.)
When you’re applying for the Medium Partner Program, in the process, Medium doesn’t ask you to create a Stripe account, nope. Instead, it asks you to create a Stripe Express account (Which is similar to Stripe)
Now here comes the good part: Once a company like Medium partners with Stripe to pay its creator globally, they don’t use Stripe, they use Stripe Express to pay its creator globally. And Stripe Express supports the majority of the countries, there are only a few that it doesn’t support, for instance, Brazil. So if Stripe Express doesn’t offer transactions in Brazil, Medium can’t do anything about it because it’s not in their hand.
But if Stripe Express offers to send money to your country, then you can get paid on Medium, it really doesn’t matter whether Stripe works in your country or not.
For example, Stripe doesn’t support Turkey, which means you can’t have a Stripe account if you are from Turkey, but guess what? They do have Stripe Express support, which means, Turkish people can get paid on Medium through its Partner Program and that’s why Turkey is on the list. Same with Pakistan and so many other countries.
Hope it clears your doubts.
