I Found This One Habit is Most Common Among All the Greatest Writers
If you’re doing this — well done!
“The top, best writers I know in the world barely do any exercise.”
Those aren’t my words, I have read that sentence somewhere on the internet, and I believe it’s damn true. The best, the top writers in the world barely do any workout or exercise. And history repeats over and over again.
Just look at a living example, Stephen King. He never went to the GYM. He doesn’t know how it feels to lift out 200 pounds of dumbbell. And not just Stephen King, there are many writers who lived and barely did any workout or Gyming in their entire lives.
George Orwell. Hemingway. William Shakespeare. James Patterson. And so many more. Look at them. They didn’t have a massive physique or body. But the opposite is true though. They had bad and insane habits.
Some of those OG writers would smoke a bunch of cigarettes per day. They’d stay up till late at night. Write only at midnight. Alcoholics. What more?
And on Twitter, these modern writers talk about “Productivity hacks.” If the productivity hacks were the real deal, these writers wouldn’t be at the top of their field.
Do you agree?
But the one thing most common in those top OG writers was they liked to walk. They’d walk a lot. And writers walk a lot.
These days too, you can find how modern writers talk about the importance of walking and how they’ve built the habit of walking, which is completely understandable. I do believe walking is something a writer should really add to their life.
I do walk a lot. Every morning and evening, I like to walk. Not just for physical activity but I feel like when I start to walk, ideas start to explode in my mind. I get tons of ideas and creative thinking when I walk.
And this is what a writer wants — Ideas.
When you have ideas, you write. No idea, and you don’t write.
Build A Habit Of Walking
If you truly think you want or are a writer — walk.
I don’t say you should have an insane morning routine. I don’t say you should have an insane productive Setup so you can write better. Nope. I don’t care about those things. But I do care about walking.
I believe it’s the real deal. Walking truly helps. No one ever said, “Walking didn’t work for me.”
Try going on long or short walks in the morning, evening, or night. And you’ll feel like you’re not just getting ideas exploding in your brain but you’re also feeling quite good.
Gary Halbert, one of the greatest copywriters of all time, also recommended walking first thing in the morning. In his book “The Boron Letter,” the letters he wrote to his son when he was in jail — he suggested his son build a habit of walking.
So the first thing you should do in the morning — is go for a walk.
Well, it doesn’t necessarily mean you should only go for a walk in the morning. It’s all up to you. Morning. Late Noon. Evening. Night. Find the time and go for a walk. Whatever suits you the best, go at that time.
The point is just to go for a daily walk.
Do you go for a daily walk?
