How This Month Was My Best Month Writing On Medium (Money?)
Let me tell you a story
Writing online is a hell of a roller coaster.
If you’ve been writing online for a while you may relate to what I just said. There are months when you feel completely lost, and there are also months when you feel like you’re the king. You’re the god of what you do.
Relatable? Something similar happened to me this month.
I wouldn't say this month was my #1 best month, but I can say this month was one of the best months for me in a while in terms of writing online.
Let’s look at the numbers and data:
1. Followers
I hit an all-time high in terms of follower count.
I have so many months when I hit 3-digit followers. But had zero months when I hit 4-digit followers until this month. This month I finally managed to get a thousand followers. More than a thousand followers.
I managed to get 1061 followers this month. All time high for me.
However, seeing the growth from the follower's perspective is not a good thing. But it still shows that you’ve done a good job doing the work.
So yeah it makes sense to look at those data.
2. Views
You shouldn’t rely on the publications!
This month was also my all-time high month in terms of views. There are many months when I hit 10k or 20k views. But this month? I’m almost close to 30k views.
Which is not bad for me.
This month I got 28,000+ views without publishing my stories in publications.
What do you learn? You can get views without publications.
3. Viral Stories
Virality shouldn’t be the metric to judge your growth.
But it still matters, viral stories mean — you put more effort into writing the story. You create a better headline. You do everything well creating the story. That’s why your stories go viral.
I have gone viral multiple times on this platform. But I wonder if this month was the best and all-time high month for me in terms of going viral.
In total, I went 6 times viral (and 10 semi-viral) this month. FYI, I’ve written ~30 stories this month.
How do I do it?
- Write in one niche
- Build a niche follower
- Build trust with the readers
- Create killer Medium stories
Pretty simple.
4. Money
Now let’s talk about money.
How much money did I make this month?
Not too much but not even bad. You can say I’ve surpassed some writers who rely on Medium Partner Program to make money.
There are writers I know who rely on the Medium Partner Program to make money and can’t even touch $200 in a month.
And there is me, who makes money through my own income streams and managed to make $218 in just 15 days.
I launched my ebook and 1:1 coaching, Medium Masterclass on the 16th of October and racked up $210.
Not bad, right?
5. Impact
This is what I care about the most.
So everything is good. Views. Viral stories. Followers. Money. All good. But the real question is: Did I make any impact this month?
My answer: Yes I did.
These views and numbers indirectly indicate how valuable my content is for the readers. That’s why stories went viral, right?
But directly, I’ve replied to 100 comments that said how valuable my stories are. From headline creation to ChatGPT writing — people thanked me for writing those stories.
And this is what makes me so happy. I’m so grateful that my words are making an impact on people’s lives and improving their lives.
One guy commented the other day how he has increased his views just from reading and applying the strategies that I showed in my stories.
Truly powerful.
6. Clarity
This is personally the best for me.
After trying a bunch of business models I’ve come to realize that…
There is no better business model than building an audience and working for yourself. No client work. No freelancing. No ghostwriting. Just you and your own work.
I used to chase “Big money” but now? I don’t. Now I don’t even think about closing or working with “High-ticket clients.” Although If you’re doing it — good for you.
And I can say that you won’t find me providing any email marketing, ghostwriting, copywriting, or any services in the future.
This is not something I made for.
I’ve come to realize that I like to work for myself. I like to build things for myself. I like freedom. Doesn’t matter how much money I make — if I’m enjoying the process, everything’s good.
That’s what matters the most to me. And that’s the clarity I got this month.
