It’s a great accomplishment for me.

Although, I’ve obtained 50+ comments on so many posts but didn't get 100 comments until this happened.

June 20 Was the date I wrote this post “9 Hardcore Lessons I Learned By Writing On Medium For 3 Months”. And this post went viral (still getting enough views per day)

I never thought this post could go viral. Actually, it’s not huge viral but the engagements I'm getting on this post are huge.

Let’s analyze the post —

This is the power of niche writing.

  • Views — 1.4k
  • Reads — 587
  • Read ratio — 42%
  • Fans — 236

This is insane.

This means the readers who have read the post almost half of them have clapped on the post.

Guys! I have no words.

But I know, why this happened.

Let’s learn —

1. Use Power Words In Headlines

Power words are powerful.

A power word force reader to click on the post, I always try to add power words in my headlines. It decorates your headline as well as makes them stronger.

In this headline, I used the power word — Hardcore.

Instead of writing — 9 Lessons I Learned By Writing On Medium For 3 Months

Write — 9 Hardcore (Power words) Lessons I Learned By Writing On Medium For 3 Months

Magic is there.

2. Give Them The Reason To Click

Support your headline.

Here’s how?

Expand your headline by detailing the information, your headline shouldn't be too short or too long. Talk a little bit about the post in the headline. Don’t reveal all the information.

Like, I’ve written — Writing for 3 Months.

It sparks curiosity in the reader’s mind.

3. Start With Hook

Put yourself in the reader's shoes.

Without this, you can’t win the reader’s attention. Start your intro with the hook.

How you can do that?

  • Ask questions.
  • Start with the strong point.
  • Write only one sentence in your first line of the intro.
  • Don’t start an intro with a paragraph, it can exhaust the reader.

4. Provide Enough Whitespace In The Post

Do you know this?

Whitespace is the best friend of any online reader. Without whitespace, they never read any piece of content.

So, how you can create the whitespace in your post?

  • Use formats 1/3/1, 1/5/1 or 1/3/2/1

Read my this post if you want to know more about formatting.

5. Write With Your Voice And Style

Don’t try to copy someone else voice or style.

And there is no need to. Write in your voice, in your style, along the way you can build your own unique voice and style. A reader never tries to compromise with their content. keep this in mind.

This is something that most writers ignore, don’t you?

6. Be Authentic

It is what it is.

Be who you are.

You don’t need to copy others,

you don’t need to show off.

Tell the reality.

Don’t try to cheat with your audience.

Don’t try to be clever.

7. Keep Your Promise

If you can’t keep your promise, you do nothing more than clickbait.

Give the readers what he/she is reading for. Expand your headline in the post, and deliver the information.

Don’t mislead or misguide.

8. Provide Value

Your post should be valuable.

If you want engagement in your post, give the value as much as you can.

Without any value, it’s impossible to get clicks, views, claps, and comments.

9. Keep Your Eyes On Reading Time

Seriously.

Keep your eye on reading time.

What do I mean by this?

Let’s see this

author screenshot

Can you see that “3 min reads” above the page, beside my name?

This also matters most.

The ideal read time is 3 -5 minutes. If you want 3-5 minute reads, I recommend you write 700 to 900 words articles, not more than that.

Although it’s not necessary. If you want to write 10,000 words article. Do that.

But, keep in mind — The Shorter The Better.

Final Thoughts

It’s not just about one element.

There are so many factors and element that affects a post, thus make sure, your post should be consist of everything in order to get virality.
