Freaking Insane.

What does it take to become a top writer on Medium?

Less than you think. Hell Yes!

A few days back, I was randomly scrolling my medium profile, and god knows why? suddenly I jumped to the about section of my profile, and it blew up my mind (seriously) when I saw this—

I was amazed.

It’s still hard to believe that I got this badge from Medium. I got rewarded as a “Top Writer” on the platform in the writing category.

What Is A “Top Writer”

Top writers are the writers who get a badge on their profile in the about section at the bottom of the page. (written like the above image)

This badge gets rewarded when a writer archives some shorts of accomplishment in their writing in a particular niche/category.

Medium also sent you an email. Once your get selected/rewarded for being the top writer. But I didn’t get any email from medium because unfortunately, I had turned off my all email newsletter of Medium.

Click Here and check if I've got this badge or not. (scroll down to the bottom)

And I exactly don't know when I got this reward as I don't check my about section page on a daily or weekly basis. Maybe I’ve got this one month back, one week back, or just by tomorrow. I don't know.

I just noticed that I'm the Top writer in the writing category.

And It’s a Huge accomplishment for me.

The writing category has over 423k+ stories and 113k+ top writers and I'm one of them.

So, how I became a top Writer in writing on medium?

I’ve done these lessons/things in order to became a top writer. So here are the lessons that I’ve implemented and have learned by getting this accomplishment.

Apply these all lessons in yours and be the best —

Lesson #1: Consistency Is The Key To Sucess

As I always say, consistency is the key to success. In order to get significant results, you have to have consistency.

And medium love consistency, the more you create content the more you become popular and your article gets views. That’s what I do, this is why I create daily content to serve the platform. (audience too)

Don't Break The Chain.

Lesson #2: Create Quality Content

No doubt! Consistency matter.

But your content quality matters more than that. Let's say you’re consistence but creating garbage content that nobody likes then it’s a bad sign for the platform. (not only for medium)

So make sure your content should be high quality, so the platform can serve it by showing thousand or millions of people.

This is one of the major factors for becoming a top writer in any category

Lesson #3: Become A Category King

What do I mean by that?

The more you dig into a category the more chance of virality will be.

Don't just write about 10 different topics, pick some selective one to three topics based on your interest and knowledge and start creating content around that.

If you’re writing for everyone then you’re actually not writing for no one.

Choose a niche.

Lesson #4: They Don't Give A Fuck About Grammar

They give! but not too much.

I make so many grammar mistakes, despite that why medium chose me for top writer. Also, They could reject me because I make mistakes in my articles, but they didn’t reject me.

Because Medium doesn’t give a fuck about grammar. They prioritize content quality first. Don't get me wrong, grammar is also a part of quality content. But it’s just a part.

Read this and your all doubt will be clear —

Writing is 93% rhythm and 7% grammar.

Your article should be full of quality, that solves real problems.

I'm not saying, you should make too many mistakes in your grammar, Nope! But all I'm saying is your content is main, if your content is good then it doesn't matter whether you write you’re or you are. Because both are correct.

But if you make too many mistakes then it will be not fair for Medium even not for your audience.

Tiny Mistakes are Unnoticeable.

Lesson #5: To Get More Views Use Relevant Tag

Author Screenshot

Once you write your full article then it's time to publish. But wait wait wait!

Did you add tags?

Make sure you add some relevant tags before hitting the publish button.

What really happens is when you add a tag, basically you’re telling the medium that — Hey medium, this article is related to this topic, so make sure whenever someone search for this topic please show my article to them. Thanks.

And once you start adding the same tag by creating the same category of content over and over again then your chance of being a top writer in a particular category will be increased, if your content will be good.

That’s what I did.

Lesson #6: You Have To Build Loyal Audience

This is a big part of your writing journey, your audience should be loyal. But they won’t be loyal you have to make them loyal to you, by creating quality content.

Your audience should be engaging, it tells the platform that your content is good, let's show this to more people. That's how you get viral posts.

Don't be cheap with your audience. Because they are the real reason for becoming the “Top Writer”

Lesson #7: Have Fucking Patience

And last but not least, you have to have patience, patience is key, it's the main thing.

Things take time to change, you won't get views just writing by your 1st article. You won't get 500 followers in just one week of writing, you have to be patient.

Patience will pay you once you’ll be consistence.

Bottom Line

I don't know do most writers get this badge or not. But I do believe it's an achievement, it's an honor.

And if you haven't got one, try to get at least one. It shows you that you’re doing something unique from others and it makes you happy. As I Am.

Also if you don't get this badge it's ok. There is nothing bad at all.

Period.

I hope you enjoyed the post and have learned something from this post.
