Do you know How many times I have published content on Medium publications?

Not a single time.

I don't publish content in the publications.

Why?

Because it does not match my working style — Yes this is who I am.

Maybe some of you guys are solely dependent on medium publications and it's not a bad thing although, it's your choice whether you publish content in publications or in your profile by yourself.

Also, Medium publication is a great way to get views, traction, and followers in a very short period of time, as publications have already their audience who can see your content once your post goes live in the publication.

But in my case I never tried it, so I can’t explain to you how medium publications work, but as I have seen so many writers who publish content on publications have not very big difference from the writers who publish their content by themselves.

So here are some points that I have mentioned about why I don't publish content in publications (and maybe you shouldn't too)

Note — These all are my personal POV as I experienced seeing others writers. and if anyone who doesn't want to read bad things (reality) about medium publications, can leave this post right now. But if anyone who wants to know some harsh reality of publication then tighten your belt and let's jump into the post.

The Problems With Publications —

1) Lenthy Submission Process

If you’re not an editor or owner of the publication means you’re a writer like me, then whenever you want to post an article you have to submit it to the publication, you can not directly publish them.

Once you submit the article, the editor or owner of the publication review your content, and if they find it suitable and complies with the publication rules they finally publish your post on the publication.

Me for — Very Disappointing.

2) Undesirable Time Consumption

Generally, most publications take 24 hours to 72 hours for reviewing your post and some publications take up to 4 days to 9 days.

Although it does not happen with all the publications, but in most publications, you have to wait for weeks to finally publish your post.

That is another reason I don't publish in the publications.

3) You’ve to Meet Their Fucking Requirments

Another reason I don't publish in the publications is requirement, you can’t do everything you want to do. I'm not talking about the actual content, I'm talking about the headline and footer sections where we give readers a call to action.

If I publish on my own profile by myself, I can give whatever headline I want to give. I can give whatever call to action want to give. But if you're going to publish in the publication you can't do anything, you will be limited for your words. For your call to action, and for your commands.

Which I don't like — I'm an Independent Writer.

4) Carbon — Copy Results

Not often but publications are not something like, once you publish our content there you will get 10k followers in a day — that's not going to happen.

Conversely, people get the same result as when they publish content on their profile, but sometimes when your post is a “GEM” (unexpected) it gets more views than you have expected. And credit goes to publications. (Unwillingly)

But nowadays peoples get the same views as they post their content on their profiles themselves.

Also, nowadays most publications are dying. (audience, views, engagements)

5) Zombie Audience

Yes, exactly, a lot of publication has almost the dead audience, that's why you don't get views when you publish content there.

Some publications have 100k followers or 500k followers but when a writer publishes content, they hardly get 100 views on their post.

But you might be thinking No Har, it's the writer's content's fault that it doesn't get views, but you also have to think about the editor who is sitting to review the content, I think they are not an “idiot” who will accept garbage content in the publications.

Sometimes medium curators select their content and boost it to show in front of more and more people and the credit goes to publications.

6) Lack of Value

And last but not least,

Let me ask you one question —

How many writers are on the platform?

And how many of them are publishing content in the publications?

Maybe be millions.

That’s where value compromised.

If you’re going to publish your content in the publication you’re beating the hundreds of thousands of other writers who are playing the same game. And when you’re playing the same game, on the same ground, the audience who is sitting on the balcony in the chair, can not see every player with their 2 fucking eyes.

And most people do the same, they actually do not read the publication content — Never. Because the amount of content published in the publication is huge — everyday payday.

And that's where you lose your attention.

7) Beginner Writers Face Struggle

Most publications reject beginner writers' content to accept in their publications.

Why?

Because of grammatical mistakes, lack of formatting, lack of value in the content, and so on.

That’s the major problem with publications faced by beginner writers.

Maybe some of you won’t agree with my point and that's OK. I can’t do anything about that. but,

It is what it is. I’ve said what I need be to said.

Forgive me! if I hurt your feelings.

Period.

I hope you will find it helpful and valuable, if yes then, break the algorithm for this post. let's get this post to the moon. (not joking)
