You may be surprised to see the updates.

As of now, Medium truly wants to enhance the platform, since there are seven little but powerful updates already have happened after changing of Medium CEO. You might be aware that a few weeks ago Ev Williams stepped down as Medium CEO, and Tony Stubblebine took Willaims’ role.

Since then, Medium deploying new changes on the platform day by day, week by week.

Let’s discuss all the updates one by one —

Update #1: Medium Subdomain

I found this new feature when I was checking my Medium profile.

What is a subdomain?

With the help of a subdomain, you can see your username before medium.com

like this —

yourname.medium.com

You can create your subdomain from here.

Although when I tried this feature it didn’t work, as It redirected me to the 404 page. Hope they will resolve this issue soon.

Or, let me know in the comment section if it is working properly for you or not.

Update #2: Membership Icon

I found this new update very useful.

They have changed the icon from a star (*) sign to a yellow bold star symbol mentioning with member only.

You can also see those symbols in every comment section (if the person has Medium membership plan.)

This brings us to the next update.

Update #3: Membership Plan Cross-Check

How you can figure out if a person owns Medium membership or not?

Before this update, there was no hack to know this, but after the symbol update, it’s possible to know if the person has Medium membership or not.

Let me show you how.

First way: Open your perspective profile.

Example —

This is one of my good friend Zack Love’s profile.

Here, you can see he’s making money through the Medium partner program.

Now, open his one post, and check the comment section.

Here you can see there is no star symbol next to his name, which means he has no membership plan.

Second way: If the person is your friend or they always comment on your post, then you also figure it out from there.

Update #4: Profile Dashboard Icons

There are two minor changes that happened in the profile dashboard.

Update #5: Tipping

You might already know this feature.

Tipping is a great way to receive money from your audience. Just enable your tipping option from your Medium account and you’re good to go.

If you don’t know how to do it, just follow the below steps —

Go to setting > Find Audience Development Option >Click On Manage Tipping >Add Payment Details >Done.

Update #6: Removed Bots

Bots can destroy any social media platform.

Thank god, Medium has removed all (almost) bots from the platform.

We can assume that Medium is the bots-free platform as of now.

Update #7: Medium Staff

This can be bad as well as good news.

Recently new Medium CEO has written a post where he shared that they have laid off 29 people from Medium.

But, I see this news in a positive way, here’s why:

  • They have enough employees, so they didn't need them.
  • They want to reduce employee costs.
  • They want to invest that money into other stuff.
  • They are planning to expand the Medium partner program service.
  • Worst can scenarios? They are planning for any disaster.

What’s your opinion on this? Drop in the comment.

What Next?

These all are positive signals.

There are so many possibilities and cues coming from Medium, they truly want to make this platform better. And we can hope for the best in the near future.

If Medium continues to improve the platform like this, soon we can expect Medium partner program in every country.
