This is how I made my first $1 writing on Medium

I distinctly remember it took me 75 days of writing to finally monetize my Medium audience and make my first $1 on Medium as a beginner (terrible lol) writer.
How did I make that?
So I had a story go viral. Luckily a woman dropped a comment in that story asking me if I could consult her on “How to write on Medium.” At that time I had around 700 followers, which made me a credible person.
So I booked the consulting and charged $20 for a 2-hour call.
That feeling? It was so amazing. It completely changed my worldview about making money writing online. And since then I’ve made over $1,700 just alone writing on Medium without Partner Program.
I Write. I publish. I teach. I inspire. I make money. Lesson? You don’t even need a degree to teach something and make money doing it.
What a crazy era we live in, isn’t it?
So let’s talk about the 5 ways that’ll help you make your first $1 writing on Medium as a complete beginner writer.

Way #1: Ebooks
Writing ebooks have so many unfair advantages.
A lot of people don’t like hopping on call for a meeting. A lot of people don’t like watching Video Courses. And a lot of people don’t like Voice notes.
But they DO like reading ebooks.
There are many reasons why they do it. For instance, it doesn’t require any network connectivity. They don’t have to put on their headphones. Etc. Etc.
And this is why you should write ebooks.
At this point, I’ve written more than 10 ebooks. Right now the first is Medium Masterclass (paid) and the second is Medium Crash Course (Free).
I believe writing ebooks is one of the best ways to make money writing online.

Way #2: Courses
This also can be the best way to make your first $1.
When I say course, I specifically mean video course. But you know what? Waking video courses isn’t as easy as people think. It takes a lot of effort.
- You have to script.
- You have to shoot.
- You have to edit.
But if you can do it? You can definitely print a lot of cash.
Way #3: Consulting
Want to make big bucks?
If you don’t like writing ebooks or creating video courses, then consulting can be a good option for you.
Just teach people what you do. In this model, you don’t even need to make a slide or presentation — as long as you’re solving your prospect problem.
You just need a Payment system (Stripe or Paypal) a Calandly link and Zoom or Google Meet. That’s it.
Collect payment, share the Calandly link so they can book the call, and hop on the call via Zoom or Google Meet.
Pretty simple.
Way #4: Services
Let me tell you the truth.
You don’t actually need an audience to make money doing it.
Websites like Fiverr or Upwork has millions of customer who look for services. What does this mean?
You can provide your service on those platforms without having your own audience. But the problem? It can be unsustainable. This means your earnings will be unstable.
So what’s sustainable?
Create content and build an audience.
When you do it, you not only get clients through your content but also it helps build your portfolio and helps you prove your competence.

- Email marketing
- Ghostwriting
- Copywriting
There are many micro-services you can provide as a writer.
Way #5: Affiliate Marketing

Do you know that you can make money promoting other people’s products? It’s called Affiliate Marketing.
All you have to do is find the product you want to promote.
It can be a tool, software, book, course, program, or anything. Make sure that the product you want to promote has an affiliate system.
Because if there is no affiliate. You can’t promote the product.
