Here are the five simple and hopefully, not surprising, ways to grow, get traction, and gain visibility on Medium in 2024 (I hope these are helpful):

1. Increase The Quantity

This method is especially proven to work for beginner writers.

One thing I want to clear up here is, I applied this same way of growing on Medium when I first started writing here. I churned out some many stories that me growing on Medium was nowhere near impossible.

You can try the same thing and see what you can bring to the table. But one thing I’d like to mention here is though, don’t just create “Crap” useless stories. If your stories aren’t that top-notch, at least make them better, useful, and valuable, AT A SCALE.

If you can do it, I guarantee, you’ll get traction and visibility on Medium.

2. Increase The Quality

The second way of increasing your visibility on Medium is to just write and publish “So good stories” Your audience can’t help but click on and read to.

This method can be useful for writers who already have more than 500 or 1000 followers. Because remember “Your existing followers help you grow on Medium.” Thus, if you publish high-quality stories, they’ll roll the ball for you to get the momentum going.

Take the time to write, polish, and then publish the story.

If you focus on the quality bar, publishing once or twice a week is the perfect place to be in. You don’t need to rush and churn out countless stories. But sure, if you mix quantity & quality and publish more amazing stories more frequently, your growth will be unstoppable.

Trust me. But doing so is damn hard, for your kind information!

3. Leverage Publication

This is the first time I’m recommending you to use publication.

See, I don’t have a beef with publications, it’s just I never tried it, and because of that, I have a strong conviction that they won’t help most of the time. Instead, publications consume and waste a lot of time and effort.

And that’s the reason I never published my stories in any publication on Medium, ever.

But it doesn’t necessarily have to be the same for you. You should definitely try publishing your stories on Medium publications as they already have an audience — and may give you more visibility on Medium.

If you’re not familiar with what a Medium publication is, read this article.

4. Network And Connect

What could be better than you getting supported by 5–10 fellow writers and by your own audience? Nothing is more holy grail than this, right?

And that’s why you should network with other writers on Medium. All beginner writers hope to get supported by other people or someone so they can make meaningful progress.

So find 5–10 fellow writers who are in the same niche as you are, and have a similar number of followers as you do. Comment, clap, and share their stories, and you’ll shocked to see it’s happening the same for you!

The reciprocity is real.

Another thing you can do is to connect with your own followers/audience. They are a super important group of people who will help you grow on Medium.

Reply to their comment, if they ask anything in the email, you must reply with a solid answer, hop on calls with them, and you’ll be amazed to see why they read all your Medium stories, clap, comment, and share them.

Don’t you think it’ll help you get more visibility on Medium?

5. Ask To Subscribe You

The best thing about Medium is, it has an inbuilt email service provider.

What this means is, you can also email the story to people you want to reach, all they need to do is they must subscribe to your Medium profile.

Ever noticed this option on Medium...?

If this option is checkmarked, the people (your followers) who have subscribed to you — will get an email about the story the moment you publish the story.

Why does it matter?

It’s so simple, if more people get notified or emailed about the story you have published, they can simply open, read, and engage on it, to increase the engagement or visibility of your story.

You shouldn’t forget that less than 5% of your audience sees the stories you publish. Medium doesn’t send the notification of your story to all your followers. So the best thing you can do to increase your visibility is to ask people to subscribe to your profile.

I think these are some of the most profound ways you can use to increase your visibility on Medium, and hopefully, by applying these, you’ll get some great results, that’s my bet!
