Planning to quit Medium? Please don’t! Yes, I said it. Here are the 3 reasons why I think you shouldn’t stop writing on Medium in 2024 and beyond:

Reason #1: No Investment

Want to build your own website or blog? Be willing to lose $100 or more!

Your personal blog or website isn’t free to write. As long as you’re writing on it, you need to feed it the food it needs. You first need to buy a domain. Then you need to buy a hosting.

We’re not done yet!…

Then every single year you need to renew your domain and hosting to keep writing on your website. Not to mention, you would also need plugins and themes that’ll cost you extra money.

The point is: Your personal blog is not free.

Twitter? Oh sorry, X? It’s also not free. Elon Musk is a genius marketer. He knows how to do business. He turned Twitter into a cash machine by launching premium subscriptions.

To use Twitter, you may need to buy a premium subscription, which will allow you to write long-form content also to give you more reach.

Certainly, Twitter isn’t free ANYMORE.

Medium? I don’t think you need to spend any money on this platform to continue writing. I can say, the Medium subscription is completely optional.

What does a Medium subscription do?

It just allows you to read metered stories. Nothing less, nothing more. It doesn’t harm your reach. It doesn't stop you from writing long stories.

I’m a person who doesn’t spend too much time reading stories on Medium. I also don’t engage with anyone on Medium — except my audience. I used to but not anymore. So me having or not having a premium subscription doesn't affect my writing & the business I’m writing through Medium.

Medium is free.

Reason #2: Drastic Change In Your Writing

Let’s be honest, Medium made me a better writer.

Like most people, I was also new to this writing game. Had no clue what it was and how it could be done. I figured things out on my own.

Medium helped me write better because it’s a long-form content platform — unlike Twitter or LinkedIn. When you write on Medium, you actually think through the things. You understand the words, points, structures, rhythm, and most importantly you edit ruthlessly.

Short-form content platforms like Twitter and LinkedIn won’t make you a better writer in the short term because you have to just post 280-character content, which makes it hard for you to really go deep on a topic.

So your writing doesn’t improve much!

Medium is different. If you consistently write on this platform, you’ll realize that your writing has improved a lot and you’re now a better writer.

If you want to become a better writer, write on Medium.

Reason #3: Makes You Money

What could be better than writing what you love and making money from it?

Medium Partner Program. I know a lot of people including me still aren’t eligible for the Medium Partner Program. But hopefully, one day, we all will be able to join the Program.

But if you already have joined the program and making money from it, there is no point leaving the platform. You may be struggling with views, growing your followers, or not knowing how to write stories that get views.

If you have such problems Medium Masterclass can help you.

But even if you’re not eligible for the Medium Partner Program, you can build your own income streams — as I do. You can sell your ebooks, services, and products — writing on Medium.

It’s possible to make money without joining the Partner Program.

I personally have made over $2,000 just writing on Medium without the Medium Partner Program. So believe in yourself. It’s all possible.

Twitter, LinkedIn, or your personal blog, on the other hand, don’t give you a guarantee of whether you’re going to make money or not. You’ve to grind 10x or 50x more than Medium if you want to make money from Twitter, LinkedIn or your personal blog.

Medium certainly guarantees and helps you make money because of its direct monetization method and low competition as compared to Twitter.

I think these three reasons are enough to keep writing on Medium.
