I’m leaving Medium.

This is the statement from the beginner, intermediate, and pro writers. I see so many writers leaving the platform. Also, I do believe Medium is not as it used to be, but also keep in mind, Medium trying to improve the platform day by day. Since you maybe have seen features like tipping, removing bots, or enhancing the appearance of the platform are the direct indication of platform improvement.

But, today in this post I want to share with you three core reasons why Medium writers are leaving the platform.

Let’s discuss one by one —

Reason #1: Medium Partner Program

This is a big reason.

Everyone knows the Medium partner program is not available in every country yet, thus it’s hard to make money directly through the platform, so if a writer is from a country where MPP is not available, what option are they left with?

Leave the platform. (all mindset)

Because when you don't get paid for your work, everything seems meaningless. True?

However, I have always said that the Medium partner program is not only the solution to make money on the platform. There are so many income streams you can build.

But, It is what it is.

Reason #2: Growth

The second reason is growth.

They don’t get enough traction on the platform, they don’t get the views they want, they don’t get the followers they want, and they don’t get the engagement they want. This causes them frustration.

And they leave the platform.

This reason can usually happen with beginner writers. Because growing on Medium in the initial days is very hard.

But the point is, even if you start writing on platforms like LinkedIn or Twitter, you’re not going to get 10k followers overnight.

Hard work requires everywhere.

Reason #3: Not Specific

And last but not least, there are no particular reasons.

There can be so many reasons if a writer leaves the platform, maybe they got a new job, maybe they are involved in a new business, maybe they start going to school or college (after Covid), or maybe they are too busy with their client work.

So there will be no specific reason, but these all can be strong points to leave the platform.

Let me know in the comment section what are your opinions on this topic.
