3 Hard-Earned Lessons From A Medium Writer Who’s Made $2,000+ Without Medium Partner Program
Let’s just forget about the generic lessons people share on Medium.
We all have heard about those lessons: have a good mindset, maintain consistency, develop a writing routine, have patience. Enough BS!
In this story, I’m going to share with you the three hard-earned lessons I learned in my Medium writing journey — that you may find non-obvious.
Let’s dive in!
#1: Building An Audience Is Easy, Monetization Is Hard
If you’re building your audience on Medium, I assume that, at least in some way you want to monetize them. Am I right? So here’s the catch.
Building an audience isn’t that hard. Of course, anyone can build an audience on Medium — That’s where not the problem comes. The problem arises when you want to monetize your audience.
I know many writers who have built an audience of 1000, 2000, 5000, or 10,000 followers on Medium — good for them. But do you know where they are struggling? They find it hard to monetize their audience.
Now, I’m not talking about the Medium Partner Program, as it’s not supported in every country yet. When I say monetizing, I mean selling your ebook, courses, product, or service to your audience.
Making money from the Medium Partner Program isn’t a form of monetization, it’s a form of incentivization.
#2: Niche Matters A Lot More On Medium
Writing about self-improvement can give you thousands of views and hundreds of comments, but writing about cryptocurrency might not give you the views and readership you want.
Why? Because not all topics work equally well on Medium.
Some topics will give you more views than others. I know, you may not have realized it, but this is the truth. So for this reason, you have to be extremely selective about what topic you’re writing on Medium.
Choose your topic wisely.
#3: There Is No Rule To Writing On Medium
Yes, I have realized it recently.
There is no rule to writing on Medium. I think there is only good and bad work. The type of work decides your progress. So, if your work is good, you’ll make more progress than the person who’s doing bad work.
Understand. There is no particular path to success on Medium. There are many paths, in which you can choose the one that fits you the best to succeed on Medium. The goal should be to succeed on Medium — doesn’t really matter what path you choose.
For instance, someone will advise you to publish 2–3 times a day to get better results on Medium, while others may advise you to just publish one quality story per week to get the result you want.
To be honest, both work. It just depends on what you want to choose. None of those approaches is true or false, but it’s just that one is better than the other, and vice versa. I’ve done both of them and can say both works.
So choose your preference accordingly.
