The key element of online writing is a keyboard.

You type, you write using a keyboard. But, in order to produce more content while saving your precious time, you should master the art of typing. Keyboard typing is entirely a skill that every writer should have to master to become a prolific writer.

I’m not saying you have to write 150 WPM, Nope! and there is no need to. Instead, you have to sharpen your keyboard shortcuts skill.

So, here are the 13 fantastic keyboard shortcuts I use to write effectively that help me to save tons of time.

#1: Ctrl + Backspace

Don’t use backspace, use Ctrl + backspace.

What do you do to remove the previously written words? You take the help of the backspace key. Right? But this is for lazy writers, prolific writers use Ctrl + Backspace to delete the previously written words.

When you use Ctrl + Backspace it deletes your previous written words (not character). Trust me, this shortcut saves the majority of my time.

Try this.

#2: Ctrl + Delete

Don’t use delete, use Ctrl + delete.

I use this shortcut to delete the right side of the words. This shortcut becomes my superpower when I edit my post, I remove all the clutters from start to end by pressing “Ctrl + Delete”.

It’s just the opposite of Ctrl + backspace.

#3: Ctrl + T

I know writing requires research.

Research about the topic is one of the important tasks for any writer, sometimes it takes you 1 hour, another time 12 hours. The thing is when we research about the topic we open lots of tabs using the touchpad or mouse which cost us too much time.

But when you use Ctrl + T, it opens a new tab in your browser without doing anything extra. Then, you can directly type your query on Google.

I love this shortcut.

#4: Ctrl + Tab

Now you have opened the new tab in the window.

But, you can’t gather all the data at once, you have to go to the tab again and again by using a touchpad or mouse, and the result? This costs you 2x time. So, to protect your time this shortcut helps you.

Once you press the Ctrl + Tab, it will take you to the next tab that you’ve opened previously.

Remember, Ctrl + Tab.

#5: Shift + Arrows

Want to select text without using mouse?

If you want to format delete, decorate or hyperlink a text, this shortcut is for you.

  • Shift + Left Arrow — It selects your text from the left side.
  • Shift + Right Arrow — It selects your text from the right side.
  • Shift + Up Arrow — It selects your text from the upper side.
  • Shift + Down Arrow — It selects your text from the downside.

Once you select your text, you can format, delete, or decorate them. (bold, Italic, underline)

#6: Ctrl + Z

We call this Undo.

If you want to delete the previous action this shortcut helps you to do that.

Everyone knows it. Don’t you?

#7: Ctrl + Y

We call this Redo.

If you want to bring back the previous work, this shortcut helps you.

Everyone knows it. Don’t you?

#8: Ctrl + A

Want to select all the text at once?

Press Ctrl + A to select all the text at once.

#9: Ctrl + C

Want to copy the text or an element?

Press Ctrl +C to copy any text, image, or element.

#10: Ctrl + V

This shortcut helps you to paste your copied work.

#11: Ctrl + X

Want to cut the text as well as copy them at once?

Press Ctrl + X.

#12: Ctrl + F

I love this shortcut.

Whenever I need to find a word or sentence in my written content, I use this shortcut. When you press Ctrl + F it opens a little search bar where you can type the desired words, and it highlighted the words in the window.

So useful for prolific writers.

#13: Window + Prt Sc

I take screenshots a lot.

Taking screenshots is time-consuming. But, with the help of this simple shortcut, you can save lots of time. Whenever you need to take a screenshot just press Window + Prt Sc and after that, your file will be automatically saved on your laptop/pc.

You can edit them later.

Pro Tip

Avoid using mouse.

Using a mouse takes you extra effort and time, this is the reason I stopped using mouse. I know It sounds weird but trusts me it works really well. In the beginning, you’ll feel like you’re stuck, but after sometimes of practice and habit it will make your work 100x effective.
